Binasal Hemianopia Due to Bilateral Internal Carotid Arteries Dolichoectasia: A Case Report and Literature Review

چکیده

Binasal hemianopia is rare. It more commonly associated with ocular diseases than intracranial pathologies. Nevertheless, the proximity of internal carotid arteries (ICA) to visual pathway may cause a variety neurologic effects which lead loss. Although loss uncommon, ICA aneurysm compress optic nerve causing field defect and reduced acuity. We report 66-year-old male presented asymptomatic binasal detected during routine glaucoma screening. Computed tomography (CT) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain orbit showed dolichoectasia in cavernous segment both ICA, compressed pre-chiasmatic bilaterally. Humphrey’s test confirmed diagnostic respecting vertical midline. This was first reported case without disturbances. highlights importance using CT MRI as additional tools identify true (ICA dolichoectasia) patients glaucoma. A thorough assessment any helps detect life-threatening pathologies effectively managed accordingly.

A 5-year-old boy was evaluated for a left retrotympanic mass found at otoscopy. Subsequent petrous bone CT and MR angiographic examinations demonstrated bilateral aberrant internal carotid, bilateral stapedial artery persistence, and bilateral duplicated internal carotid arteries. Imaging findings and their clinical relevance are discussed. A second case of unilateral aberrant internal carotid ...

Syncope in Patient with Bilateral Severe Internal Carotid Arteries Stenosis/Near Occlusion: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND Syncope is commonly worked up for carotid stenosis, but only rarely attributed to it. Considering paucity of such cases in literature, we report a case and discuss the pathophysiology. DESIGN/METHODS We report a patient with high-grade bilateral severe internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis who presented with syncopal episodes in the absence of stroke, orthostatic hypotension, sign...

Binasal hemianopia.

Three patients with nasal visual field defects are described. In each case it is believed that compression of the lateral fibres of the optic nerve by the anterior cerebral or internal carotid artery was the cause. Binasal hemianopia can thus be produced by a single lesion and is as much a true hemianopia as the common bitemporal one. The value of careful neuroradiological investigation to disp...
